Back in March 2009, I was assigned to create a yearbook for my class of 2005 (a sample can be downloaded here by the way). I need to collect everyone’s profile. Instead of doing it in a conventional way, which is a hassle, I built this little app.

It’s essentially an account manager app with a stripped down functionalities. Everyone of my friends could sign up for an account and then they’ll be able to fill in their profile and share their ideas about the book.

Because of it’s minimalistic nature, I decided to go minimal on the design too. The left side is for navigation, and the right side is for everything else. The left side uses blue and the right side uses red, this is the colour scheme of our faculty (computer science). The usage of icons (thank god they provide those beautiful icons for free) are meant to emphasize the content and action, e.g. a “folder” for “profile” and a “pencil” for “edit”.

In July 2008, I was assigned to redesign Dilts Foundation website. The old website has been around since a long time ago but no one is really taking care of it. My task was to return the site to its original purpose. In general, this website has a purpose to become an online presence for Dilts Foundation. People would be able to know more about Dilts Foundation by visiting it and hopefully it will also attract more volunteers and donors.

After considering all of the functions required, I decided to use Wordpress and redesign it completely. The design is mainly based on the logo. Take out the colour scheme (black, white, and red) and mix it up with a proper amount of fancy illustrations from the offline publications. This will result in a look that will appeal to children but still retaining a professional feel to it.

When I and My friend saw a game of my team your team We thought “Hey, this is fun”. Then in 2008 We decided to make our own version of it which is named CoCoA. As one of the founder, I was responsible for designing the whole website.

My first idea at that time was to built a custom CMS for the website. But then because of all the complexities and also the limited time and resource, We decided to use Wordpress instead.

The main content of the website is the pictures that We made. So I designed the website to emphasize those pictures. This is achieved by giving a large space for each of the pictures. Thus resulting in limited space for other content which is less important but still need to be shown. To make up for that, icons are used to symbolize the content. Combining the icons with dashed borders gives the site a sketchy feeling which adds more emphasis to the main content. The main color used is derived from the name cocoa.
